Height : 85" (excl central finial)

Case :
Mahogany with extensive satinwood stringing.
Hood with swan necks, brass paterae and central finial.
Octagon bone capped pillars to hood, splats to rear of hood.
Long trunk door with bone escutcheon.
Canted corners to trunk sides.
Plinth to base with bracket feet.
Width at widest point 20.5" (hood)

Dial :
13" x 18" painted arch dial with portrait of Horatio Nelson in arch and anchor decorated spandrels.
Matching steel hands and seconds dial.
Roman numerals.
Scottish pendulum bob.
The falseplate bears the stamp R Hipkiss, Birmingham. In 1808 the firm of Hipkiss & Harold became Richard Hipkiss who continued to work at Suffolk Street, Birmingham until 1811 and probably later. It is interesting to note from CK 3, the other Lord Nelson dial, that the firm of R Hipkiss also made a 12" x 16" version of this dial.

Maker :
James Robertson of Perth was apprenticed to James Young of Perth in 1770 and would probably have finished his apprenticeship in 1784. James Young of Perth was known to have working dates 1760 - 1795.
