Case :
Walnut of good colour.
Arched hood with three quarter tapering front.
Integral pillars to hood door and quarter pillars to rear.
Side hood windows.
Long trunk door in London style.
Two birds with urn spandrels.
Width at widest point 19.75" (plinth base).

Dial :
12" x 16.25" brass arch dial with automaton within a silvered ring of Father Time holding a scythe engraved with the verse "Whilst I worke be you not idle".
Strike / Silent feature and dolphins in arch.
Makers name on cartouche.
Silvered chapter ring with fleur de leys half hour markers and matted dial centre.
Matching hour and minute hands.
Aperture calendar mouth.
Roman numerals.
Stepped plinth to base.
Brass weights.

Maker :
Thomas Chilton was known to have been making clocks 1738-60 having completed his apprenticeship to John Thompson on 5 April 1731.

There is an almost identical clock to this in Virginia Museum.
